He talks about complexity and serendipity and about how interventions like the starfish guy, whether intentional or accidental, enable all-life-on-Earth to achieve higher levels of resilience and evolution. We're not talking about a sick starfish bailout here, just a tweaking in one little place for a short time. Understanding complex systems takes more than critical thinking.
